A simple kerosene lantern prop model. Now I know what you're thinking, I've shown my skills to be much better than this before right? Well this kerosene lantern was made using Alias PowerAnimator 9 on an SGI Octane2. I got this old Silicon Graphics computer from some guy online. It is the same model of computer that was used to make 3D models as early as 1997, and was used to make early animated movies like Ice Age, and those pre-rendered sprites in games like Donkey Kong Country.
Using software this old is VERY clunky in comparison to today's more streamlined software. Everything was modelled using NURBS instead of polygons. So, this is probably the best I can do when it comes to using software so niche and old, but I'm amazed I was even able to use it. Because very few people got to experience making 3D models back then let me tell you! It's wonderful to be able still use such hardware and software today!
